The Blog About Everything Tide Pools and How to Explore Them
This blog was created so that people like you can explore the tide pools sustainably and enjoy the wonder of this marine habitat

About Me & the blog
I started this blog as an outlet for my love of the tide pools.
Growing up in Southern California, I grew to love the tide pools from a young age when all I knew of them was the anemones that pulled at my fingers and shore crabs that scuttled out of my way.
As an adult, I retained my love of our rocky shores and began visiting them more frequently, keeping a close watch on the tides, going early in the morning or late at night, and getting to know others in the community who were avid tide poolers.
The more I visited these places, the more I loved them and the more I learned. Nudibranchs became my favorite creatures to find and add to my life list. The diversity and density of life on the rocks amazed me; it seemed that I saw something new every visit.
As I became more involved in my hobby, I began to realize how little many people knew about the tide pools, even those who lived so near them.
Many of my friends and relations had never been to our rocky shores or experienced the joy of gazing into a pocket of the ocean full of life, trapped until the tide returned.
The Tide Is Out came out of a desire to make information about these ecosystems more readily available. I am not aware of another blog or site solely devoted to this. Through education, I strive to encourage others to visit the tide pools sustainably so that others can enjoy them as well. Tide pools are very fragile environments, so it’s vitally important that those who visit do not destroy, take from, or otherwise harm the animals living there. Which is part of the reason the blog is here in the first place!
Because of my background, most of my articles center on tide pools from Southern California which boasts very rich intertidal life. While the blog posts about guides and how tos are applicable elsewhere, most of the species mentioned and pictured are from California, although many of them span from British Columbia to Baja.
